The Institute for Mathematics at the School of Mathematics/Computer Science/Physics is looking for starting from October 1st, 2024

2 Research Assistants (m/f/d)
(salary grade E 13 TV-L, 75 %)

for a duration of three years,

1 Research Assistant (m/f/d)
(salary grade E 13 TV-L, 75 %)

for a duration of 18 months (an extension position at Ruhr University Bochum for another 18 months is in prospect), and

1 Research Assistant (Postdoc) (m/f/d)
(salary grade E 13 TV-L, 100 %)

for a duration of 18 months.

The job posting is part of the DFG-funded SPP 2458 “Combinatorial Synergies” (https://combinatorial-synergies.de/).

The advertised positions are associated to the working groups Algebra and Discrete Mathematics” (Prof. Martina Juhnke), “Stochastics” (Prof. Matthias Reitzner) and “Applied Algebra and Data Analysis” (Prof. Paul Breiding und Prof. Tim Römer).


Your Duties:

Participation in the SPP 2458 “Combinatorial Synergies” specifically in the projects: 3 x 75%-positions:
  • “Invariant chains in algebra and discrete geometry”, supervised by Prof. Tim Römer
  • “Combinatorial and probabilistic aspects of symmetric edge and cosmological polytopes”, supervised by Prof. Martina Juhnke and Prof. Christoph Thäle (Ruhr-Universität Bochum)
  • “Random Lattice Polytopes”, supervised by Prof. Matthias Reitzner
1 x 100%-position (Postdoc):
  • “Kähler Package for the Grassmann Zonoid Algebra”, supervised by Prof. Paul Breiding and Prof. Peter Bürgisser (TU Berlin)
The opportunity for a obtaining a PhD (Dr. rer. nat.) is available for the three advertised 75% positions

Requirements for employment:

  • A very good master’s degree in mathematics
  • For the postdoc position: additionally a completed doctorate

Additional Qualifications:

  • Very good knowledge in one or more of the following areas: Combinatorial Algebra, Discrete Geometry, Polytope Theory, Random Graphs, Representation Theory, Harmonic Analysis
  • A structured and independent way of working

The 100%-position is available on a full-time or part-time basis.
